Environmental Tips
Davis Marina is situated in a beautiful waterway close to some of the best beaches on Sydney Harbour. It is essential that all of us follow best environmental practices while using and maintaining our boats to ensure these places are preserved for the future. At Davis Marina, we ask all our clients to follow the advice below to help our environment.
- When refuelling take care to avoid spillage into the waterway. If you overfill the tank, wipe the spill up with a rag. Do not hose the fuel into the water
- Keep the bilge clean and use oil-absorbent pads to remove any oily bilge water. Do not pump dirty bilge water overboard
- Install a holding tank or use on-shore toilets. The discharge of untreated sewage from vessels into navigable waters is prohibited
- When cleaning, minimise the use of detergents and use only non-phosphate soaps. Keep water usage to a minimum
- When scraping or sanding, use a vacuum sander or place a drop sheet underneath to catch paint scrapings and dust and dispose of these in bins ashore
- Collect all your rubbish on board and dispose of it properly ashore. This includes all fishing line and gear as well as all cigarette butts
- Travel at speeds that avoid excessive wash that may cause bank erosion, disturb sensitive river or seabed environments or annoy or endanger others
- Avoid seagrass beds when anchoring and do not drive your boat across shallow weedy areas, as propellers act like harvesters on the seagrass
- Keep the noise down. Loud music, revving engines and noisy machinery can upset your boating neighbours and the marina’s neighbours overlooking North Harbour
- Notify the marina office of any activity that threatens the environment as soon as possible
